A Charitable, Cheeky Wedding Give-Away

Dear Couple in Need... by jessica zweig 06/24/2009

As little girls, we all dream of our big white wedding. We envision our dress (Vera Wang or Badgley Mischka?), the flowers (roses or lilies?), our bridesmaids (childhood friends, sisters, co-workers or all of the above?) and, of course, the guy in the tux waiting for us at the end of that aisle. But then we get a little older and reality sets in. We realize that while we may have found the guy of our dreams, our friends are still bridesmaid material and we’ve chosen a new favorite flower altogether, life is complicated, relationships take work and weddings are expensive.

In this economy, it’s rare you find people (especially in the wedding industry) willing to lend a real helping hand. Well, Cheeky found one. Inspired by the dire straits of our economic state, Thomas Slack of Slack Photography, LLC (winner of WeddingWire 2009 Bride’s Choice for Photographer of the Year), sent out an email to his friends announcing he would be willing to donate his service for free to a couple in serious need. Apparently, some of his wedding colleagues were inspired as well and hopped on the pro-bono bandwagon with Slack.

Cheeky is proud to announce that four talented wedding professionals are collectively donating all of their services for free to one lucky couple faced with the “economic blahs.” Aside from photographer Thomas Slack, videographer Julie Salzmann, day-of-coordinator Charlene Liang and florist Kristen Janes will also be a part of your special day…at absolutely no cost.

What do you have to do? It’s simple. Email your love story/your sob story/your I-got-laid-off story to slackphoto@hotmail.com. Essays must be 500 words or less. You can also include photos that best portray you as a couple to help tell your story. Submissions are due by July 1st.

Now that we are grown, cheeky women, we understand that certain things really are priceless. Especially love, friendship and (in the spirit of Thomas Slack and his friends) generosity and charity.

Happy (free) planning!
