Last week, I hit the town with Marcus Riley for our weekly NBC “About Last Night” segment and in the spirit of Restaurant Week, we decided to, well… eat. Which is why we hit up the brand-newly opened Gilt Bar, sure to be River North’s latest and greatest hot-spot. But chef/owner Brendan Sodikoff isn’t interested in appearances. (However, from the look of this gorgeous space with antique-inspired decor, wooden-carved rustic tables, vintage street lamps, a gold plated bar, and a main-room lighting fixture you have to see to believe, one may beg to differ.) But beneath the beauty, Gilt’s goal is to be nothing more than simply a foodie’s restaurant.
With Sodikoff’s fancy resume aside, (which includes time at The French Laundry and Per Se, among others), the purpose of Gilt is to make sophisticated cuisine accessible to everyone, while bringing back the fun to dining out. From what I got to sample – toasted bread served with roasted bone marrow with red onion jam and coarse salt and the chicken with oregeno, espellette pepper, and roasted garlic, Gilt may just be as good as (Chicago restaurant) gold.
Check out the NBC segment below and check back with Cheeky for a full report in a few weeks.

This place is AWESOME! I just went there last night for the first time and had to come back and find the Cheeky review to give my thoughts. Foods that are a must: Sweet Garlic Bread, Cauliflower (with capers and chili) and the open face salted pork sandwhich (stole some off my friends plate) and the frites; just be prepared to have some STRONG breath for a day or so! This is a place I will go back to.
