I’ve seen and interviewed a lot of celebrities in my day, and I always say that when a celebrity is in the room, people know it. They somehow look and act differently than the rest of us, even if they are just standing in the corner. But when singer/actress Mandy Moore made her debut in Chicago at LaSalle Power Company for the Gain “Love at First Sniff” Concert, she was just like one of the girls. Yes, she was gorgeous, had a rockin’ bod and was wearing killer heels (I am currently in the process of figuring out who designed them – I’ll get back to you on that one!), but she was so genuine and down to earth, I felt like I was talking to my best friend.
When I wasn’t blinded by the massive infinity diamond ring she now wears (yes, she’s married! To hottie rocker, Ryan Adams), I asked her some questions that I wanted the answers to. Like, for example, how does she keep looking so, well, fabulous? Apparently there’s no secret at all. It’s just natural beauty.
MM: Oh, thank you! I do? I don’t really have a routine, I just kind of, you know, take care of my skin. I’m a simple girl, nothing fancy.
Cheeky: So, what about a fitness routine – do you do anything in particular to stay in shape?
MM: Nope, not anything out of the ordinary and not any one method over another. I am a dork and don’t lead a very exciting life. I just try to take care of myself and be generally good to my body.
Cheeky: Okay, so you do nothing exciting (hmmm, NOT true!), so let’s move on to how fabulous Chicago is – do you like it?
MM: I do! I love it here, I haven’t been able to spend that much time here yet, but every time I come, I love it more and more.
Cheeky: Ya? What do you think is so Cheeky about it?
MM: I mean, the shopping is endless and I hear it’s so great here during the summer and, oh, the food. The PIZZA is amazing! It’s so good. Every time I come here I must have the pizza.
After our little chat, Mandy busted upstairs to prep for her concert and took the stage about an hour later in front of 200 people. She sang some songs from her new album, in addition to some classics that kept all of us going – in particular “Candy” – and was constantly making fun of herself on stage and telling everyone how much of a dork she is. At the end of the night, it was back to her suite at the W Hotel before heading back to LA to see her hubby the next morning. She refused to answer reporter’s questions about her husband on the red carpet, but on stage she did give us a glimpse into their world… “We just hang out and do a lot of laundry”, she joked. “I’m a homebody.” If only every celeb was that down to earth! Love her. Just like candy.
