Low-Cal Cocktails

Fancy That?

by stephanie miller

Sure, the holidays are about indulging, but what are you going to do when you have to squeeze into your LBD for a Chrismukkah party or wiggle your way into a sparkling gown for New Years Eve? Never fear, I’ve found some simply spectacular, low-cal cocktails for the holiday season. Sip on these and you’ll actually drop pounds. Kidding, but wouldn’t that be nice?

LookBetterNaked Margarita

Channeling the David Barton tagline, this low-cal, low-carb margarita is a satisfying alternative to the bland “Vodka Soda Water with Lime” that I know all of you have ordered on multiple occasions.

The LookBetterNaked margarita was created by none-other-than Nacional27’s Adam Seger. It’s made from all-natural ingredients, including Partida Reposado tequila, Sambazon Organic Acai, organic agave nectar, rosemary, egg white and fresh squeezed lime juice. Using a Sambazon Pure Organic Acai smoothie pack and Partida Organic Agave Nectar, the margarita is filled with antioxidants, amino acids, dietary fiber, iron, calcium, cholesterol-reducing fructans and Vitamins A and C.

The rosemary is rich in vitamin E, which can help prevent cancer and skin damage. An egg white provides a lean source of protein, while the fresh lime juice can prevent heart disease and gives an extra dose of Vitamin C.

And they say Wheaties is the breakfast of champions.

Suba Cocktail

Seger has also created the Suba cocktail, a Cuba Libre martini that’s a better, healthier alternative when holiday (or anytime) cocktailing. It’s only 168 calories for a cocktail, which may seem high to some, but it’s nothing compared to a 900-calorie margarita or 400-calorie traditional mojito with simple syrup and regular rum. The Suba is made with two ounces of Bacardi Light, juice of one lime, an ounce of Diet Coke syrup and is served in a chilled martini glass garnished with a lime wedge. The low-cal, low-carb and low-fat Suba was created for the launch of Miami Nights, Nacional 27’s new South Beach-inspired evening of music, dining and dancing, taking place every Friday.

Bistro and Bubbles

Champagne is my favorite spirit. Not only does it have a gorgeous flavor profile, but it’s low in calories and sometimes you only need one or two to really start feeling giddy. Thus my recommendation: head to Bistro 110 (110 E Pearson St.) to try their new bar menu, appropriately dubbed Bistro and Bubbles. This month, Sunday to Friday from 5-7 p.m., you can enjoy tastes from Chef Dominique Tougne paired with Moët & Chandon White Star and Rosé Impérial.

They’re offering two champagne pairings from Moët & Chandon: a glass of Moët White Star paired with Truffle Oil Parmesan French Fries ($11) or a glass of Moët Rosé Impérial paired with Smoked Salmon Pizza ($15).

Sip on Champagne and splurge on the gourmet French fries and pizza.
